[new] Cayman Cowboys by Eric Douglas

[crlf]
The story is about an underwater photographer who returns Grand Cayman after some time away. He needs to get away from the stress of his job as a news photographer covering a war zone. While on vacation, the character begins to realize that something is going on. There is a protest, a robbery and a girl turns up dead. As he starts to put it all together, he realizes a greedy developer on the island is causing all the problems. In the end, the good guys win out by exposing the corrupt officials and the developer. It features lots of diving and a search for a shipwreck as well.
According to the author, the title is meant to refer to the characters who do what is right even if it is not the easiest thing to do by standing up for what is proper and protecting each other.

[crlf]
Not really set in Cayman, but this book is a must for anyone visiting the Caribbean!
[crlf]
Norman Paperman decides to leave New York to start running a small hotel in the Caribbean. The ideal turns to strife when the layed-back attitude of the Caribbean starts to cause him problems; his bartender runs away, the cistern runs out of water (and then collapses after a heavy rainfall), the chamber maids run away, his builder leaves him half-way through construction of some new rooms, but Norman manages to overcome all these hurdles and more!
The book highlights the attitudes and difficulties of living and working in the tropics; just because you are used to things working in civilisation, doesn't mean they will work the same way here!

OK, I admit it! As I only get to dive in the Caribbean about once a year I can't justify to myself the expense of buying the above beautiful volumes, but I have bought this book, which is a highly condensed and abridged version of the above book, with great photos and identification tips. This goes in my dry bag on all my dives!
